Disruption to Swetswise access due to maintenance

Self Service Laptops Temporarily Unavailable

We are currently having problems with our self service laptop service which has meant we have had to put it out of service.  An engineer is on call and we hope to have a resolution to the problem early next week.  Until then the only laptops available for loan are those available from the Help Desk during normal serviced hours.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Web of knowledge access problems resolved

Web of Knowledge is available off campus again. If you are still having difficulty accessing it please follow these steps and try again:

If users are still seeing an error message please could they try clearing cache and cookies from their web browser (further information available in the FAQ: http://wok.mimas.ac.uk/faq/answers.html#Q6.5) and then close and re-open the browser before trying to access again

Web of knowledge access - update

IP access  to Web of Knowledge has been fixed so the database can be searched on campus. The off campus problem is still being worked on, we apologise for any inconvenience caused

Go Green Week - what the Library has done


Go Green Week 2012There is a display of books on environmental and sustainability inside the Library on the ground floor along with a plasma screen presentation of some of our electronically accessible books. These books include subject areas such as social responsibility, business ethics, production and development.

Library staff have been recycling, re-using stationery, saving power wherever possible and encouraging library users to do the same.

We have a wide selection ranging from cinema blockbusters such as WALL.E and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, through famous classics such as Cabaret, The Maltese Falcon, and Gandhi, to critically acclaimed films such as Pan's Labyrinth (96% on Rotten Tomatoes) and Amores Perros (92% on Rotten Tomatoes).

New! Access to Sage Research Methods until end of March.




Aston staff and students now have access to a temporary trial of Sage Research Methods until the end of March 2013.

Sage Research Methods is a research methods tool created to help researchers, faculty and students with their research projects. It links over 100,000 pages book, journal and reference content with advanced search and discovery tools. Researchers can explore methods concepts to help them design research projects, understand particular methods or identify a new method, conduct their research, and write up their findings. The database contains content from more than 640 books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks, the entire “Little Green Book,” and Little Blue Book” series, two Major Works collating a selection of journal articles, and newly commissioned videos. Be Alert to Zetoc Alerts!

Did you know that in 2012, Zetoc sent out 2,081,058 Alerts?

Zetoc Alerts offer a convenient way to stay up-to-date in your subject area and can save you time without compromising your knowledge of your subject area. 

There are two main ways that Zetoc Alerts can help you:
  • Receive e-mails listing the tables of contents of new issues of key journals you have identified in your subject area
  • Receive e-mails when new journal articles are published which satisfy your author or title keyword search criteria
